Read whether the role is based in Bogotá, Cúcuta, Quibdó or another location, and identify its contract category. For the Verification Mission, international P and Field Service posts use UN Careers; National Officer positions are only for Colombian candidates, and General Service roles require Colombian nationality or a valid Colombian work permit.

Create the requested profile and follow the original notice. UN Careers is used for Secretariat and Verification Mission roles; agencies and NGOs use their own systems. Tailor work history, education, language profile, technical examples and attachments. An account with one employer does not transfer to another.

Spanish is essential for most national engagement, field and partner-facing roles. Tie achievements to the actual portfolio: peace implementation, migration, protection, child rights, health, food security, monitoring, rural development, climate, gender, finance or operations. State English and Spanish proficiency honestly and address regional or field experience where relevant.

Foreign nationals in ordinary work need the Colombian visa or authorization applicable to their contract. Colombia's visa guidance allows an IGO or other accredited public institution to support a work-visa request by letter; accredited IGO personnel may have a protocol-managed status. Neither route applies automatically to all consultants, local staff or family members, so HR must identify the correct process.

Prepare for written assessments, technical panels, competency interviews and references. Before accepting, confirm the legal employer, duty station, travel and security arrangements, contract term, pay currency, tax, medical insurance, entry or visa support, relocation assistance and family eligibility. A job offer alone does not grant work authorization.
