Finding UN Jobs by Location

IGO Jobs organizes active vacancies by the duty station stated in each public job notice. Country pages connect national job markets with their cities, hiring organizations, career guidance, and relevant employment context, while duty-station links narrow the same market to a specific city or operational base.

Location does not determine whether a vacancy is internationally or locally recruited. Review the contract category, grade, nationality rules, work authorization, mobility requirements, and language criteria on every job page before applying.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a country and a duty station?+

A country is the broader employment market attached to a vacancy. A duty station is the specific city or operational location where the role is based, such as Geneva in Switzerland, Nairobi in Kenya, or New York in the United States. Country pages connect the wider market with all of its active duty stations.

How are the top countries and duty stations ranked?+

The rankings use the number of active public vacancies currently assigned to each normalized location. Closed and expired jobs stop contributing to the totals, and the order changes as new roles open across the organizations covered by IGO Jobs.

Can one job appear under more than one location?+

Yes. A vacancy can name several eligible countries or duty stations. In that case, it can contribute to each relevant location so candidates browsing any stated option can find it. Fully remote or worldwide jobs without a fixed country remain available in the main job search.

Does a UN duty station mean the job is internationally recruited?+

No. The duty station only identifies where the work is based. Recruitment status depends on the job category, contract, grade, nationality restrictions, and work-authorization requirements stated in the vacancy.

Why is a country or city not shown?+

The ranked and regional directories show locations with at least one active vacancy. A location can disappear when its last role closes and return automatically when a new eligible vacancy is published.

How often are location counts updated?+

Location rankings and vacancy totals refresh daily from active, processed job records. Country names, duty stations, and common location variants are normalized before the totals are calculated.
