Finding vacancies by job function

Job titles vary widely between UN agencies, development banks, NGOs and other international organizations. This directory organizes active vacancies by the type of work they involve, making it easier to find roles that match your experience rather than relying only on title keywords.

Select a function to open its current roles. A vacancy can appear in more than one area when its responsibilities overlap, so browsing a related field can uncover relevant opportunities you might otherwise miss.

Frequently asked questions

How are job functions assigned to vacancies?+

IGO Jobs groups vacancies by the work described in each public notice, including its responsibilities, specialist subject and required skills. The controlled categories make it easier to compare roles across organizations that use different job titles.

Can one vacancy appear under more than one job function?+

Yes. Many international roles combine disciplines. For example, a programme officer position may also involve policy, partnerships, monitoring and evaluation, or humanitarian response, so it can appear in more than one relevant area.

Do job-function pages show only active vacancies?+

Yes. The directory and function results use active, publicly visible vacancies. Closed and expired roles stop appearing when they are no longer available.

What is the difference between a job function and a grade?+

A job function describes the kind of work, such as finance, communications or logistics. A grade describes the level of responsibility and, for many organizations, the relevant pay and contract structure.

Why does a job function show no active roles?+

Hiring changes continuously. A function can temporarily have no active vacancies and return when a new eligible role is published. You can also use the main job search to broaden the query across related functions.

How often do job-function counts update?+

Counts refresh daily from active vacancy records. A role can contribute to more than one function when its responsibilities span multiple areas.
