Use IGOJobs to compare Spanish vacancies, then apply only through the official system named by the employer. A UNGSC role in Valencia can use the UN Careers Portal, while IOM, UNOPS, agencies and NGOs operate separate platforms.
1Confirm the city, employer and contract category
Establish whether the post is with UNGSC in Valencia, a Madrid-based organization or another employer. Read whether it is international, locally recruited, General Service, consultancy, internship or contractor employment. The category determines eligibility, benefits and immigration support.
2Apply through the listed official portal
Follow the original vacancy and complete the required profile, documents and deadline. UNGSC directs candidates to the UN Careers Portal; other organizations use their own accounts. Spain's UFI is a useful alert and information service for Spaniards, but it is not the hiring portal for the organization.
3Tailor operations, technology and language evidence
For Valencia, show relevant experience in ICT, geospatial information, supply chain, procurement, data, enterprise systems, logistics or field support. For Madrid, tie evidence to partnerships, policy, development or programme work. Spanish can matter for locally engaged work; English is central to international operations. Follow each notice's precise language criteria.
4Confirm the correct Spanish authorization route
EU/EEA/Swiss citizens can work in Spain under free movement, subject to registration. Other ordinary employees may need the applicable Spanish work and residence authorization or qualifying exemption. The UNGSC Valencia Base states that selected international candidates need a valid visa before reporting and that the Organization initiates the visa formalities after the offer is confirmed. Consultants and local hires should not assume the same support.
5Complete assessment and relocation checks
Expect written assessments, technical exercises, competency interviews and references. Before moving, confirm legal employer, salary and tax basis, contract length, insurance, visa process, relocation, pension, duty station, remote or hybrid conditions, travel and family eligibility. Do not begin travel before required visa formalities are complete.
Ordinary permits and UNGSC-supported international visas
Ordinary third-country employment in Spain uses a residence-and-work authorisation requested by the employer. This differs from the accreditation and staff status available to eligible officials of an international body under a headquarters agreement. Spain’s Protocol Directorate manages this framework. It is employer- and appointment-specific, not open Spanish work permission. Consultants, interns and local staff must confirm their status, documents and dependants with HR.

Is Valencia the main UN duty station in Spain?
For UN operational work, yes. Valencia hosts the UN Global Service Centre's base for geospatial, ICT, supply-chain and central services. Madrid has a different market in representation, partnerships, policy and development work. Check the employer and physical location rather than relying on a general Spain label.
Do all Spanish IGO employers use UN Careers?
No. UNGSC Secretariat roles use UN Careers, but IOM, UNOPS, UN agencies, international NGOs and other organizations use their own systems. The Spanish Foreign Ministry's UFI provides vacancy information but does not replace the official application portal.
Is Spanish required for IGO jobs in Spain?
