Official OSCE application route ↗1Choose the right OSCE vacancy and employment modality
Start with the official OSCE vacancies page and distinguish contracted, seconded, consultancy, internship and JPO opportunities. Check the stated duty station, grade, contract type, education, experience, languages and nationality rules. Professional and Director field-operation posts cannot be held by nationals of the host country, while National Professional posts require that nationality.
2Create or update your OSCE online profile
Select **Apply for Job** on the exact vacancy and register or sign in to the OSCE online application system. Complete the profile before applying where possible; OSCE says it remains valid for future applications, so update your employment, education, contact details and references rather than creating a separate profile for each vacancy.
3Tailor the application form and cover letter
Use the vacancy notice and OSCE Competency Model to show achievements that demonstrate the required technical and behavioural competencies. The OSCE candidate guide advises applicants to make the online form specific to the post. Save every section as you complete it; the portal’s technical guide sets a 4,000-character limit, including spaces, for the cover letter.
4Review, e-sign and submit before the exact deadline
Recheck your profile, application answers and cover letter, then save and continue through each remaining screen. Read and electronically sign the OSCE Terms and Conditions, which also confirms the accuracy of the information provided. Submit before the deadline—OSCE does not consider incomplete or late applications—and retain the automated receipt confirmation.
5Prepare for long-listing and pre-screening
After closure, HR checks whether applicants meet the minimum requirements before hiring managers review eligible cases. Depending on the volume and role, managers may invite candidates to a written pre-assessment or a pre-recorded interview. Revisit the mandate, post-specific competencies and examples from your experience while waiting for an invitation.
6Complete assessments, board interview and final checks
Selected candidates may take one or more online assessments, followed by reference checks and a live video interview with a board panel. The Appointing Authority decides from the board’s recommendation. Successful candidates receive an offer and must complete medical-clearance procedures; for seconded roles, OSCE also notifies the relevant seconding authority.

Where do I apply for OSCE jobs?+
Apply through the OSCE online application system, linked from each official vacancy. Create or update your profile, choose the exact post and complete the application before the stated deadline. For seconded positions, the system may route the form to your Ministry of Foreign Affairs or OSCE delegation; some States use an offline nomination route.
Who is eligible to apply for OSCE vacancies?+
Most contracted and seconded OSCE vacancies are open only to nationals of the Organization’s 57 participating States; consultancies are the stated exception. Field-operation nationality rules also matter: Professional/Director applicants cannot be nationals of the host country, whereas National Professional applicants must be nationals of it.
What kinds of jobs and contracts does OSCE offer?+
Contracted vacancies include General Service, Professional/Director and National Professional posts, fixed-term for six months or more or short-term below six months. The OSCE also recruits seconded staff, consultants, interns and Junior Professional Officers. Read the exact notice because conditions and funding differ.
What happens after I submit an OSCE application?+
HR first long-lists eligible applicants. Hiring managers then shortlist and may ask for a written pre-assessment or pre-recorded interview. Selected candidates complete online assessment(s), reference checks and a live video interview before an interview board recommends a candidate to the Appointing Authority. Medical clearance follows an offer.
What is an OSCE roster?+
OSCE rosters are pools of pre-assessed candidates who can be considered for an immediate or future vacancy. A roster can be created through a generic or specific recruitment process, normally up to P5 level, and approved candidates may remain on it for three years. Placement is not an offer or a guarantee of a later appointment.
Does OSCE offer internships?+
OSCE internships target final-year graduate or postgraduate students and recent graduates within two years of graduation. Applicants need fluent English, computer literacy and be no older than 30. Internships are normally unpaid and travel is not funded; some eligible Vienna interns may receive a living-cost allowance.
