Start with the employer named in the vacancy. UN Secretariat posts use UN Careers and Inspira, while agencies, funds, programmes and international NGOs use their own career sites. The UN in Syria lists participating agencies and contacts, but it is not a shared application account. Submit only through the channel identified in the notice.

Create the requested account, application form or personal-history profile before the deadline. For UN Secretariat roles, complete every required Inspira field. Record the stated education, experience, languages, technical skills and competencies, then provide direct evidence for each minimum requirement rather than relying on a general CV.

Use the language requested by the employer. Arabic is critical for many national delivery and partner-facing roles, while English is common in international reporting, technical work and coordination. Map each criterion to a concise example showing your action, stakeholders, tools and result. Provide only the documents and personal information requested.

Separate internationally recruited, National Officer, General Service, locally recruited, consultancy, internship and deployment roles. These affect eligibility, security support and relocation arrangements. Syria’s ordinary legal route requires a work permit for non-Syrian workers unless an authorised exemption applies. Do not assume that route covers an international appointment; obtain the exact employer-led entry, residence and clearance instructions from HR.

Expect written exercises, technical tests, interviews, references or scenario-based assessment, depending on the employer. Save the vacancy and prepare examples against its exact criteria. Before accepting, confirm the duty station, security process, accommodation, medical support, communications, movement restrictions, insurance and contingency arrangements, including any evacuation procedures relevant to the role.
