Job Description

Supports the United Nations Statistics Division's work on collecting, validating, analysing and communicating official statistics. Interns contribute to databases, research, technical documentation, outreach and visualisation across economic, demographic, environmental and development-statistics workstreams, helping make data more accessible, reliable and usable for global decision-making.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Create research and written contributions for reports and other documents
  • Develop software prototypes using programming languages such as Python
  • Produce outreach content including social-media material
  • Support collection, evaluation, analysis and visualisation of statistical data
  • Develop and manage statistical databases and dashboards
  • Support training and technical assistance on data-collection programmes
  • Conduct methodological research for technical documentation
  • Prepare materials for international and expert-group meetings

Role Requirements

  • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate degree programme, or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree
  • Have a field of study closely related to the internship
  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Desired Criteria

  • Ability to draft and edit news articles, newsletters, webinar concept notes, blogs or social-media posts
  • Ability to analyse and visualise data
  • Ability to design surveys and polls
  • Ability to develop software in Python or similar programming languages
