Job Description

Supports UNODC’s Data Analytics and Statistics Section in Vienna with research, collection and statistical work on drugs and crime. The intern reviews data instruments and guidance, analyses time-series trends using databases, prepares inputs for reports and studies, helps organize workshops, and contributes to datasets, estimates and documentation for mandated drug and crime data collections.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Conduct background research and review data-collection instruments and methodological guidelines
  • Analyse time-series trends on drugs and crime using internal and external databases
  • Collect information from diverse sources for statistical products and UNODC reports
  • Prepare statistical inputs for documents and regional studies
  • Assist preparation of international workshops and meetings on drugs and crime data
  • Carry out other relevant data and research assignments

Role Requirements

  • Enrollment in or recent completion of a graduate programme, or final academic year or completion of a first university degree
  • Studies in social sciences, criminology, epidemiology, statistics, economics, data science, information technology, mathematics or an equivalent field
  • Computer literacy in standard software applications
  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of R, Python, Stata or Microsoft Access
  • Experience researching crime, drugs or a comparable study area
