Job Description
UNODC seeks a home-based consultant, with travel to Vienna, to develop and draft the Global Study on Firearms Trafficking. The consultant will establish the research methodology and study structure, coordinate evidence collection and regional expertise, guide analysis and deliver a peer-reviewed report. The work analyses illicit firearms trafficking trends and methods.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Develop the methodology for information collection, analysis and drafting of the Global Study on Firearms Trafficking
- Define research questions, thematic areas, indicators and qualitative and quantitative data sources
- Develop an annotated study structure based on literature, available data and research methods
- Prepare a detailed workplan and timeline addressing information gaps
- Coordinate inputs from regional experts and submit collected material and interview notes to UNODC
- Draft the study and guide analytical approaches, interpretation and chapter consistency
- Incorporate peer-review comments and produce the final report with findings, recommendations and bibliography
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in international relations, international law, criminal law, criminal justice, social sciences or a similar subject; a first-level degree in a similar field with two additional qualifying years may be accepted
- At least seven years of experience in research, quantitative and qualitative analysis, writing and editing research outputs
- Experience in firearms trafficking, countering transnational organised crime or related fields
- Experience drafting analytical outputs
- Fluency in oral and written English
Desired Criteria
- Experience producing analytical publications according to UN standards
- Knowledge of another UN official language
