Job Description

Provides legal advisory support to UNRWA Gaza Field operations by drafting and negotiating field contracts, agreements and data-protection documents. The consultant advises on administrative and employment-law issues, investigations and standards of conduct, while delivering legal training, outreach and assistance in coordination with field stakeholders as needed.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and assist in negotiating field-related contracts for procurement of goods and services
  • Draft and review memoranda of understanding, donation agreements and other legal documents supporting Field operations
  • Prepare and review data protection agreements related to Field operations
  • Advise on administrative and employment-law matters, including investigations, disciplinary cases and standards-of-conduct issues
  • Provide legal training, outreach and assistance on administrative and employment-law matters

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in law with specialisation in public international law, contract law or commercial law, or a first-level law degree with two additional years of qualifying international law experience
  • At least five years of progressively responsible relevant work experience as a lawyer in the United Nations, another international organisation, government service, the commercial/private sector or an NGO
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English

Desired Criteria

  • Familiarity with the UN system and practices
  • Working knowledge of Arabic
  • Prior professional work experience in the occupied Palestinian territory
