Job Description
Translate UNICEF's Adolescent Girls Storybook and related multimedia content from English into Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo for use across Nigeria. The consultant will protect the source material's meaning, culturally sensitive child-rights framing and adolescent-friendly voice, while delivering quality-assured, publication-ready versions that support girls' empowerment, advocacy and positive social norms.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Attend the inception meeting and submit a translation approach, workplan and quality-assurance process
- Translate the English storybook and multimedia content into Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo
- Adapt idioms and terminology while preserving the source meaning and child-rights framing
- Develop and apply a glossary for recurring terms, names and UNICEF terminology
- Edit and proofread each language version and ensure consistency across files
- Incorporate UNICEF feedback and submit revised versions with version control
- Deliver publication-ready manuscripts and verify the designed layout before publication
Role Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Translation, Linguistics, Nigerian Languages, English, Communication, Literature, Education, Development Studies, Gender Studies or a related field
- At least 5 years of professional experience in translation, localization, editing or multilingual publishing
- Experience translating educational, adolescent, child or social-development materials
- Experience translating from English into Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo
- Experience with editing, proofreading, terminology management and version control
- Fluency in English
- Native or near-native proficiency in Hausa, Yoruba or Igbo
- Understanding of Nigerian linguistic and cultural contexts
Desired Criteria
- Experience with gender, adolescent empowerment, social norms transformation or child-rights materials
- Experience translating UNICEF or other UN and development publications
- Experience translating publications for adolescents or children
- Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive communication principles
