Chief Translator

Leads IMF translation, editorial and coordination services across its working, core and additional languages as Deputy Chief of the Language Services Division. The role directs people, resources, quality and strategy while modernising multilingual delivery through responsible AI, automation and language technologies.

• Lead translation, editorial, terminology, quality-assurance and translation-project-management services
• Advise the Division Chief and provide operational leadership as Deputy Division Chief
• Supervise section chiefs and the Translation Coordination Center across workforce planning, performance and resources
• Shape the division’s strategy, policies, operating model, priorities and work programme
• Optimise staff, contractors, technology and budgets to deliver high-quality multilingual products
• Lead responsible adoption of language technologies, AI-enabled workflows, automation and data-driven decisions
• Harmonise terminology, editorial practices, workflows, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
• Represent the division in IMF committees, cross-departmental initiatives and professional forums

• Advanced university degree in translation, interpretation, economics, law or a related field with at least eleven years of relevant experience, or university degree or equivalent with seventeen years
• Advanced written and spoken proficiency in at least one language supported by the division
• Substantial experience translating, revising, reviewing and producing high-profile documents and publications
• Significant experience managing and supervising a high-volume unit, contractual staff and mixed budget resources
• Experience with large language models, computer-assisted translation, machine translation and terminology-management systems
• Ability to lead managers, professionals and support staff through organisational and technological change
