Job Description

Leads WIPO’s Spanish Translation Section in Geneva, combining language services with digital transformation. The head directs translation, revision, terminology and vendor delivery, sets quality standards, develops staff, and integrates machine translation, artificial intelligence and automated quality tools into workflows.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Set strategy and manage Spanish translation operations
  • Lead adoption of artificial intelligence and language technologies
  • Plan translation, revision, editing and post-editing workloads
  • Establish quality metrics and monitor operational performance
  • Manage, mentor and evaluate staff and contract translators
  • Approve complex texts and authoritative Spanish terminology
  • Direct terminology databases and translation memories
  • Test and implement new translation technology workflows
  • Lead tenders and select external language-service providers
  • Represent the section in professional and internal networks

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in languages, linguistics, translation or a related discipline, or first degree with additional experience
  • At least ten years of relevant translation, revision, editing and post-editing experience
  • Experience supervising staff and leading technology adoption in language services
  • Mother-tongue Spanish and excellent English
  • Good knowledge of French or another official United Nations language

Desired Criteria

  • Technology, project or change-management training is desirable
  • Results-based, budget or vendor-management experience is desirable
  • Knowledge of WIPO subject matter is desirable
