Job Description

Provides legislative advice that helps WIPO Member States build balanced intellectual-property frameworks . The P-3 Legal Officer will review and draft legal instruments, conduct research, improve advisory tools, engage with Member States through consultations and workshops, and deliver practical guidance on patent law, utility models, trade secrets and integrated-circuit layouts.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Review and advise on legislative provisions and policy documents from Member States
  • Prepare legislative instruments and policy documents on patents and related fields
  • Conduct comparative research and draft advisory papers and policy briefs
  • Improve legislative-advice procedures, templates, checklists and tools
  • Engage Member States through consultations, seminars, workshops and outreach
  • Identify and address Member State needs for legislative and policy support

Role Requirements

  • First-level university degree in law
  • At least 6 years of patent-law experience in policy design, law-making, legislative drafting, prosecution, litigation or transactional work
  • Excellent written and spoken English

Desired Criteria

  • Specialisation in patent law
  • Experience in trade law or law of treaties
  • Experience on emerging IP policy topics
  • Knowledge of Arabic, Russian, Portuguese or other UN official languages
