Job Description
Coordinates WIPO legal, legislative and policy assistance to Member States on copyright and related rights. Within the Copyright Law Division, the counsellor leads research, advice and treaty-implementation support, supervises lawyers and consultants, develops studies and guidance, and builds cooperation with national authorities and partners to advance balanced copyright frameworks.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Draft legal opinions and advice for Member States on copyright and related-rights texts and policies
- Support countries to adhere to and implement WIPO copyright treaties
- Supervise research and analysis of countries' copyright-law needs
- Develop studies and projects on emerging copyright-law issues
- Prepare guides, legal opinions, publications and other Division documents
- Supervise junior lawyers and external consultants
- Maintain cooperation with national authorities, UN agencies and partner institutions
- Organise and deliver legal training, seminars and awareness-raising activities
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in Law, or a first-level law degree plus two additional years of relevant experience
- At least seven years of relevant professional legal experience, including copyright and related-rights experience
- Experience drafting legislative, regulatory and policy advice in intellectual property
- Excellent written and spoken English and one other official United Nations language
- Knowledge of project-management methodology
- Ability to analyse legal questions and draft legal texts
Desired Criteria
- Postgraduate specialization in intellectual property law
- Experience with copyright legal systems in developing countries
- Experience in a multilateral intergovernmental organisation
- Project-management experience

- Initial fixed-term appointment of two years, renewable subject to performance and applicable conditions
- Mobility to other WIPO activities, offices or duty stations may be required
