Job Description

Supports OHCHR online with translation and transliteration of selected Sinhala-language human-rights documents into English. The Online Volunteer reviews documents, identifies relevant information, translates and transliterates excerpts, applies OHCHR terminology and data-protection requirements, reviews peer translations, communicates issues to the project lead, and handles confidential.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Review Sinhala-language documents to identify and extract relevant information
  • Translate selected document excerpts from Sinhala into English
  • Transliterate Sinhala details into English where required
  • Ensure translations meet OHCHR terminology formatting and data-protection requirements
  • Conduct quality-assurance reviews of other contributors translations
  • Communicate issues inconsistencies and concerns to the project lead
  • Handle confidential information according to United Nations policies and protection standards

Role Requirements

  • Native Sinhalese and fluent English
  • Confidential-material management experience
  • Accurate faithful concise translation and transliteration
  • Compliance with information-security confidentiality data-protection and victim-protection standards
