Job Description
Provides policy advice and capacity development on structural transformation for developing countries through DESA’s Economic Analysis and Policy Division. The adviser uses macroeconomic modelling, develops policy tools and training, links sectoral transitions to sustainable development, and supports governments with strategies for productivity, diversification and green transition.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Provide policy advice and capacity development to governments on structural transformation, productivity and diversification
- Use macroeconomic forecasting and structural models to analyse transformation trends
- Guide empirical research and scenario development on macroeconomic and development issues
- Develop economic, social and environmental models for macro-development analysis and long-term policy options
- Prepare policy notes and capacity-development materials linking energy, digitalisation and human capital to structural transformation
- Design and implement capacity-development programmes, projects, e-learning and training materials
- Monitor gender-mainstreaming implications across planned policies and programmes
- Contribute to workshops, professional networks and DESA resource-mobilisation strategies
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in development economics or a related field
- At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in economic development within the United Nations development system, an international organisation or a globally recognised think tank
- At least four years of capacity-development or policy-advisory work in developing countries
- Experience in macroeconomic modelling and econometric estimation techniques
- Experience using R, Python and relevant software
- Experience on green-energy transition implications for structural transformation in least developed countries, landlocked developing countries or small island developing states
- English is required

- Experience using quantitative tools to analyse structural transformation in developing countries
