Job Description

DESA is recruiting an Economic Affairs Officer for its International Tax Cooperation Secretariat in New York. The officer will conduct technical analysis of international tax cooperation, prepare policy and treaty inputs, research country experience and support intergovernmental processes. The post also supports expert meetings, negotiations and committee documentation, and prepares senior-management presentations and reports.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop databases and technical analyses on international tax cooperation
  • Draft technical papers on country experience and tax cooperation instruments
  • Contribute to treaty provisions and committee papers
  • Analyse policy proposals on taxation, data protection and administrative processes
  • Support expert meetings and intergovernmental negotiations
  • Prepare committee documentation, reports and senior-management presentation inputs

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in taxation, economics, law, development or a related field
  • At least five years of progressively responsible experience in tax policy, tax administration, economic research, policy formulation and development programmes
  • Experience in international tax cooperation, particularly dispute prevention and resolution
  • English at UN Level III

Desired Criteria

  • Experience with tax-policy and administration challenges in developing countries
  • Experience in a multilateral context, particularly negotiating legal instruments
