Chief, Quantitative Economic Research Section

Leads the WTO Quantitative Economic Research Section and its economists. The chief sets research and publication strategy, directs trade-policy modelling and simulations, produces policy analysis, coordinates executive briefings, builds academic and institutional partnerships and represents the WTO externally.

Department: Economic Research and Statistics Division

• Set the section’s strategic roadmap and contribution to divisional goals
• Lead economists, allocate work and oversee coaching and performance
• Develop publication strategy and oversee major research outputs
• Direct computable general-equilibrium modelling and trade simulations
• Coordinate executive briefings, speeches and divisional management tasks
• Lead research reports, papers and cross-organisational projects
• Build partnerships with international and academic institutions
• Represent the WTO and support technical assistance and capacity building

• PhD in economics with excellent knowledge of trade economics and trade policy
• At least ten years of progressively responsible professional experience
• Supervisory experience or leadership of large-scale projects
• Expertise in trade-policy modelling and quantitative economic research
• Knowledge of WTO agreements and trade-policy issues
• Knowledge of Stata, R, Python or similar software
• Oral and written proficiency in English
• Nationality of a WTO member

• Two-year probationary fixed-term contract with possible extension
• Candidates may be retained on a roster for similar positions for up to 24 months
