Job Description

Provides high-level executive support, strategic analysis and stakeholder coordination for UNFPA’s Executive Director. The Special Assistant manages front-office flow and missions, leads the Executive Committee Secretariat, prepares policy analysis and leadership materials, coordinates senior engagements and organisational initiatives, and advances the Executive Director’s agenda across processes.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Manage the Executive Director's schedule, correspondence flow, meetings and front-office operations
  • Prepare mission briefings, background documents, talking points and follow-up for Executive Director engagements
  • Coordinate field missions, delegations, briefing and debriefing sessions and resulting action items
  • Lead the Executive Committee Secretariat, including agenda setting and coordination of contributions
  • Review technical papers and briefs and prepare concise recommendations for executive action
  • Coordinate global advocacy, UN intergovernmental engagements and organisational initiatives
  • Supervise OED administrative staff and coordinate coherent support with senior-office counterparts

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in social sciences, international relations, public administration, development studies or a related field
  • At least ten years of progressively responsible experience in development cooperation, international affairs or a related field
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience supporting senior executive leadership through policy advice, strategic planning and executive-office management
  • Knowledge of UNFPA's mandate, population and reproductive health issues, programme monitoring and evaluation and UN reform
  • Working knowledge of other official UN languages
