Job Description

Leads the management, coordination and monitoring of IOM Afghanistan’s protection portfolio, reducing protection risks and strengthening protection mainstreaming across programming. The coordinator develops protection strategy and advocacy, supervises teams, represents IOM in humanitarian coordination forums, and provides technical guidance on protection standards and case-management practice.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate protection activities, resource mobilisation, monitoring and reporting across the protection portfolio
  • Strengthen country-office capacity to analyse protection risks and deliver protection mainstreaming
  • Ensure the quality of protection monitoring, analysis, advocacy and case-management activities
  • Supervise protection staff and coordinate programme implementation across thematic and geographic areas
  • Develop a protection strategy, advocacy action plan, scenarios and risk-mitigation measures
  • Represent IOM in protection clusters and coordinate with humanitarian authorities and organisations
  • Build field-staff capacity on protection standards and practices
  • Provide technical expertise to regional and headquarters protection units

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, Business Administration, Migration Studies, International Relations, Law or a related field with five years of relevant experience, or university degree in those fields with seven years
  • Extensive direct implementation experience in protection programming in conflict, crisis, migration, displacement or refugee-assistance contexts
  • Experience managing protection teams and protection projects
  • Fluent spoken and written English

Desired Criteria

  • Cash-based intervention experience in humanitarian settings
  • Working experience in the region
  • Working knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish
