Job Description

IOM seeks a Protection Officer to coordinate and monitor protection activities in Venezuela, focusing on counter-trafficking, child protection and gender-based violence. The post leads programme implementation, mainstreams protection across crisis responses, coordinates case-management and inter-agency work, builds partner and team capacity, and strengthens protection information management.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Implement, monitor and supervise assigned protection programmes in line with donor and IOM requirements
  • Supervise protection team activities and provide technical guidance and training
  • Mainstream protection, gender-based violence, disability and accountability to affected populations across programmes
  • Coordinate implementation of the Country Office gender-based violence in crisis action plan
  • Participate in protection and humanitarian coordination forums and monitor protection needs
  • Coordinate case-management mechanisms and follow up individual cases of concern
  • Build protection capacity among colleagues and partners and produce technical briefs
  • Maintain relationships and information-sharing with authorities and partners

Role Requirements

  • Master's degree in International Relations, Political Science, Humanitarian Affairs, Economic Development, Business or Public Administration, International Studies or a related field with two years of relevant professional experience, or university degree with four years
  • Experience in humanitarian affairs, emergency preparedness, protection and human rights
  • Experience in protection and gender-based violence in emergencies and related coordination mechanisms
  • Experience in project management and coordination
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, oral and written

Desired Criteria

  • Operational UN-agency or major international-NGO experience in protection and assistance of refugees, internally displaced people or migrants
  • Knowledge of case-management principles
  • Strong IT skills and knowledge of data-analytics programs
