Job Description

IOM seeks a Regional Protection Officer in Panama City to provide technical protection support across Latin America and the Caribbean. The officer will assess protection risks, guide regional protection staff, coordinate with IOM offices and partners, represent the Regional Office, develop proposals, coordinate complex return cases, and deliver protection and case-management training.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Draft and review protection assessments and risk-mitigation strategies
  • Provide technical guidance to national and international protection staff
  • Coordinate with IOM offices, government counterparts and partner organisations
  • Support Country Offices with response set-up and protection assistance
  • Represent the Regional Office in technical meetings and forums
  • Develop project proposals and activities using results frameworks
  • Support complex voluntary-return cases and deliver protection training

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree in social sciences, international relations or affairs, research, law or a related field with five years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with seven years of relevant experience
  • Fluency in English and Spanish
  • Experience supporting protection programming and assisting migrants in vulnerable situations

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in capacity building, training delivery and developing operational tools
  • Experience with IOM or other UN agencies and specialised protection programmes
  • Working knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, French or Russian
