Job Description

UNICEF seeks a Mexico City UN Volunteer to provide support for maternal, perinatal and neonatal health. The officer will strengthen First 1,000 Days programme guidance, develop indicators and monitoring tools, assess health-information quality, support newborn-screening and mortality analysis, train personnel, and prepare policy notes and reports advancing equitable care for mothers and children.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advise on technical guidance and governing documents for maternal, perinatal and neonatal health
  • Support the First 1,000 Days programme documents and operational instruments
  • Develop intervention indicators, technical sheets and verification methods
  • Assess official health-information quality and recommend monitoring improvements
  • Support newborn-screening performance analysis and follow-up mechanisms
  • Analyse maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality for evidence-based decisions
  • Train health personnel and accompany implementation in priority states
  • Prepare technical documents, policy notes, presentations and progress reports

Role Requirements

  • At least seven years of professional experience including six years in maternal, perinatal, neonatal or child-health programmes
  • Experience drafting or reviewing federal technical guidelines, standards or governing documents
  • Experience building indicators, logical-framework methodology, results-based budgeting and evaluation of public policies and programmes
  • Knowledge of Mexico's national health system and official information sources
  • Spanish and English

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of Mexico's National Development Plan and First 1,000 Days programme
  • Experience with newborn screening, disability prevention or breastfeeding programmes
  • Knowledge of an indigenous Mexican language
