Nutrition in Emergency Consultant

Supports Papua New Guinea’s nutrition response to the El Niño-induced drought by strengthening preparedness, sector coordination, surveillance and early warning. The consultant works with government, UNICEF and partners to prepare nutrition surveys, build national and subnational capacity, safeguard nutrition services and supplies, and prevent, detect and manage acute malnutrition among children.

• Support national nutrition preparedness and response to drought consequences
• Strengthen nutrition-sector coordination and contingency planning
• Strengthen nutrition surveillance and early-warning systems
• Support preparation of the national nutrition survey
• Build capacity to prevent, detect and manage acute malnutrition
• Support delivery of nutrition services and supplies to affected populations

• Advanced university degree in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global or international health and nutrition, health sciences or a related health science field
• Minimum eight years of professional experience in humanitarian response, nutrition in emergencies, emergency response, nutrition-survey planning, acute-malnutrition care or maternal, infant and young-child feeding in emergencies
• English language proficiency

• Experience in health or nutrition programme and project development
• Experience in nutrition cluster or sector coordination and management in a UN system agency or organisation
• Experience using the SMART survey methodology
