WHO Health Emergency Lead

Leads WHO Somalia’s Health Emergencies programme to strengthen national prevention, preparedness, detection, response and recovery for outbreaks and all-hazard emergencies. The lead provides expert guidance to authorities, coordinates emergency risk management and IHR work, develops national strategies and multi-hazard plans, assesses health risks and funding gaps, builds core capacities,.

• Coordinate WHO Health Emergencies programme at country level
• Provide technical guidance to national authorities on all-hazard preparedness and response
• Guide emergency risk management IHR risk assessment and infectious-hazard management
• Lead gap analyses and national multi-hazard preparedness and response planning
• Prepare national risk profiles and map health risks vulnerable populations and needs
• Identify resource needs mobilize partners and oversee IHR core-capacity strengthening
• Advise on emergency health-care systems and represent WHO in emergency forums

• Advanced degree in medicine epidemiology public health or relevant field
• At least ten years in public health and epidemic or emergency preparedness and response including substantial international experience
• Experience strengthening country capacity and emergency and disaster response
• Experience facilitating multisectoral partnerships for health policy and emergency interventions
• Expert English

• Training in applied epidemiology
• United Nations funds and programmes experience
• Consensus building and cooperation with diverse national stakeholders
• Intermediate Arabic
