Summary of Responsibilities

  • Coordinate WHO Health Emergencies programme at country level
  • Provide technical guidance to national authorities on all-hazard preparedness and response
  • Guide emergency risk management IHR risk assessment and infectious-hazard management
  • Lead gap analyses and national multi-hazard preparedness and response planning
  • Prepare national risk profiles and map health risks vulnerable populations and needs
  • Identify resource needs mobilize partners and oversee IHR core-capacity strengthening
  • Advise on emergency health-care systems and represent WHO in emergency forums

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in medicine epidemiology public health or relevant field
  • At least ten years in public health and epidemic or emergency preparedness and response including substantial international experience
  • Experience strengthening country capacity and emergency and disaster response
  • Experience facilitating multisectoral partnerships for health policy and emergency interventions
  • Expert English

Desired Criteria

  • Training in applied epidemiology
  • United Nations funds and programmes experience
  • Consensus building and cooperation with diverse national stakeholders
  • Intermediate Arabic
