Job Description

Coordinates FAO emergency and rehabilitation operations in an affected country, turning needs assessments into timely, risk-informed programmes. The coordinator leads response-team planning, sector coordination and donor engagement; oversees emergency operations, budgets and advocacy; and helps ensure agricultural assistance reaches vulnerable populations through accountable humanitarian action.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead emergency preparedness, needs assessment, response programming and resource mobilization with food-security partners
  • Coordinate the Emergency Response Team, operational objectives and action-plan monitoring
  • Develop emergency response strategies, operations plans and programmes from assessments through implementation
  • Ensure FAO participates in humanitarian coordination mechanisms, sector assessments and inter-agency response planning
  • Coordinate project formulation, budgets, financial monitoring and donor-funded emergency documentation
  • Maintain donor and partner engagement and prepare advocacy messages, situation reports and external communications

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in business administration, public administration, political science, social science, agronomy, natural resources management or a related field
  • At least seven years of relevant experience in programming, planning and technical cooperation in food and agriculture
  • Experience in developing countries vulnerable to disaster or emergency risks
  • Working knowledge of English or French (level C)

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in more than one location or area of work, particularly field positions, is desirable
  • Experience with humanitarian architecture, needs assessments, cluster coordination or Level 3 emergency operations is desirable
  • Limited knowledge of a second FAO language is an asset
