Unit Head (Emerging Zoonoses & High Impact Epidemics)New

Leads WHO technical work on emerging zoonoses and high-impact epidemics, directing strategy, scientific guidance and frameworks for preparedness and response. The unit head manages expert teams and resources, conducts global threat assessment and risk analysis, coordinates technical networks and partners, and provides evidence-based support to Member States during epidemic and pandemic events.

• Develop technical guidance and strategies for emerging zoonoses and high-impact epidemics
• Propose health policies with regional and country offices and partners
• Lead technical teams and manage resources and work planning
• Conduct research and disseminate best practices for capacity building
• Manage monitoring, evaluation and reporting on programme performance
• Coordinate technical networks, collaborating centres and external experts
• Lead technical support during epidemic and pandemic events
• Promote One Health and multisectoral collaboration across countries

• Master’s degree in Medicine, Public Health, Infectious Diseases or Epidemiology
• At least ten years of experience preventing and controlling emerging zoonoses and high-impact epidemics
• Experience in health policies and strategies and managing human and financial resources
• International-level experience
• Expert English

• PhD in Medicine, Public Health, Infectious Diseases or Epidemiology
• Project-management experience
