Job Description

Supports WHO China’s work on health emergencies and communicable diseases by strengthening preparedness, response and national technical capacity. The officer works with authorities and partners to analyse risks, develop evidence-based strategies and emergency plans, advance infectious-disease control, and turn policy and field learning into technical products and high-level communications.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support WHO’s work on emergency risk management, preparedness and infectious-hazard management
  • Work with ministries and stakeholders on gap analyses and national emergency preparedness plans
  • Support capacity assessments, training and implementation under the International Health Regulations
  • Provide technical support for preparedness and response to infectious-disease outbreaks
  • Strengthen evidence generation, advocacy, partnerships and networks for communicable-disease control
  • Support integrated national health strategies, policies and interventions
  • Document and disseminate best practices from policy, strategic and field interventions
  • Prepare briefings, presentations, speeches and media responses for senior WHO representatives

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in medicine, public health, epidemiology, communicable diseases or a related health field
  • At least two years of relevant public-health programme experience, including epidemic or emergency preparedness and response at provincial or national level
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Chinese
  • Only nationals of China are eligible to apply

Desired Criteria

  • Postgraduate degree or specialization in public health, applied epidemiology or communicable diseases
  • Experience with public-health stakeholders in China and WHO or UN programmes
  • Strong English writing skills
