Job Description
Provides mechanical-engineering support for UNOPS water-supply and irrigation rehabilitation under Syria’s Nexus Response Mechanism. Based in Damascus, the engineer develops mechanical and plumbing designs, supports procurement documentation, assesses pumps and associated systems, inspects sites, applies AutoCAD and Revit, and ensures work meets requirements, quality standards and technical codes.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor installation of mechanical systems for water-supply and irrigation infrastructure
- Prepare and review designs for pumps, boreholes, pipework, valves and mechanical systems
- Support procurement of machinery and prepare tender specifications, bills of quantities and cost estimates
- Review pump sizing, technical data, contractor submittals and shop drawings
- Review design documentation against client requirements and quality standards
- Participate in site inspections and technical assessments
- Support testing, commissioning, training and handover of mechanical deliverables
Role Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2 years of relevant experience
- At least 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, supervision or construction for medium- to large-scale infrastructure or construction projects
- At least 2 years of experience in project assessment, design and supervision for rehabilitation or construction projects
- Experience using AutoCAD and HAP or equivalent mechanical-engineering design software
- Intermediate English and fluent Arabic
Desired Criteria
- Mechanical Engineering license or board certification
- Experience with international organizations or UN agencies
- Experience with Google Workspace
- Experience with pumps, pumping stations, boreholes, potable water supply or irrigation systems
- Previous experience in the Syrian context and targeted areas
