Job Description
Supports UNOPS rehabilitation of water-supply and irrigation infrastructure in Aleppo through mechanical and plumbing engineering. The role develops and reviews designs, calculations, drawings and tender inputs; checks contractors’ technical materials; conducts quality reviews and site assessments; and helps commission and hand over resilient infrastructure that supports recovery in Syria.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Coordinate and monitor installation of pumps, pipework, valves and related water and irrigation systems
- Prepare and review mechanical designs for water infrastructure, plumbing and building services
- Prepare technical specifications, bills of quantities, cost estimates, drawings and scopes of work
- Review pump sizing, operating requirements and compatibility with civil and electrical systems
- Review contractor technical-material submittals and shop drawings
- Support testing, commissioning, training, performance verification and handover
- Review design briefs, reports and documentation against quality requirements
- Organise engineering documentation and coordinate mechanical-work schedules
Role Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with two years of relevant experience
- Two years of mechanical-engineering design, supervision or construction experience for medium- to large-scale infrastructure projects
- Two years of assessment, design and supervision experience in rehabilitation or construction projects
- Demonstrated experience using AutoCAD for mechanical drawings
- Experience using HAP or equivalent mechanical-engineering design software
- Intermediate English and fluent Arabic
Desired Criteria
- Mechanical Engineering license or board certification
- UN or international-organization experience
- G-Suite experience
- Experience with pumps, boreholes and Syrian infrastructure
