Job Description

Leads stakeholder engagement for UNEP's hazardous-chemicals supply-chain and global monitoring programmes. The consultant develops engagement strategies and partnerships, convenes consultations and major events, and connects participating countries, agencies, industry and civil society. The work strengthens inclusive participation, learning and long-term programme sustainability.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Develop and update stakeholder mapping, engagement strategies, annual action plans and implementation roadmaps for both global coordination programmes
  • Design consultation methodologies, participation mechanisms, protocols and practical guidance for global, regional and national engagement
  • Build partnerships with universities, research institutions, industry associations and other organisations that contribute expertise and innovation
  • Coordinate engagement among agencies, governments, industry, academia, civil society, financial institutions and technical partners
  • Plan and document consultations, workshops, webinars, technical meetings and multi-stakeholder dialogues
  • Support the annual Global Supply Chains Forum, including stakeholder coordination, speaker engagement and programme development
  • Develop engagement indicators and monitoring tools, assess participation and recommend adaptive improvements

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in international relations, public administration, environmental sciences, natural sciences, sustainable development, business administration, social sciences, communications or a related field; a first-level degree may be accepted with two additional years of qualifying experience
  • At least 5 years of experience in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, programme coordination, sustainable development, environmental management or a related field
  • Experience developing stakeholder engagement strategies, facilitating multi-stakeholder consultations and coordinating partnerships across governments, international organisations, academia, private sector and civil society
  • Experience planning and coordinating stakeholder events, workshops or dialogues and preparing related reports and recommendations
  • Fluency in spoken and written English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience with chemicals and waste management, environmental monitoring, sustainable supply chains or circular economy
  • Experience engaging stakeholders in the fashion or construction sectors
  • Experience with GEF-funded projects, multilateral environmental agreements or United Nations organisations
