Job Description

UNEP seeks a Senior Coordination Officer in Kingston to lead the Caribbean Environment Programme's Regional Coordinating Unit and support the Cartagena Convention Secretariat. The role coordinates member-state meetings and partnerships, oversees programme delivery, fundraising and financial management, guides Caribbean marine projects and ensures gender-responsive, data-informed implementation.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Coordinate UNEP's Caribbean Environment Programme, the Regional Coordinating Unit and the Cartagena Convention Secretariat
  • Prepare meetings of Contracting Parties and translate Conference of the Parties decisions into action plans
  • Liaise with governments, donors, institutions and stakeholders across the Wider Caribbean Region
  • Coordinate Regional Activity Centres and manage host-country relations with Jamaica and the UN Country Team
  • Oversee CAR/RCU administration, Caribbean Trust Fund contributions and financial management
  • Mobilize support and ensure delivery of GEF and other Caribbean marine-environment projects

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in business administration, environmental management, environmental law and policy, development or a related field, with a first degree plus two additional qualifying years accepted in lieu
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience managing marine and coastal programmes, policies and initiatives
  • At least five years of intergovernmental-process experience including negotiations, governing bodies and conferences of the parties
  • At least five years managing large marine-environment programmes and projects
  • At least three years of resource-mobilisation experience
  • English proficiency at UN Level III
  • Spanish proficiency at UN Level II

Desired Criteria

  • Completion of degree or non-degree programmes in data analytics, business analytics or data science
  • Experience in data analytics or a related area
