Job Description

The SGP National Coordinator leads UNDP's Small Grants Programme in Kiribati, managing the country team, grant portfolio and operating budget. The role steers country strategy, project quality and monitoring while convening civil society, government, donors and the National Steering Committee to deliver environmental benefits, resilient communities and sustainable livelihoods.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coach the SGP Country Programme Associate or Assistant
  • Prepare and implement annual work plans, delivery targets and country-office budgets
  • Manage grant allocations and operating budgets in line with SGP procedures and UNOPS rules
  • Oversee project concepts, planning grants, monitoring visits and support to grantees
  • Coordinate National Steering Committee meetings and proposal review processes
  • Develop resource-mobilization and partnership strategies with government and donors
  • Document lessons and facilitate knowledge exchange among grantees and partners

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in environmental or natural resource management, economics, public policy, law, environmental economics or management, business administration, or a related field
  • At least 2 years of relevant environmental or natural-resource project management experience with a master's degree, or 4 years with a bachelor's degree
  • Fluency in English and Gilbertese is required

Desired Criteria

  • Progressively responsible programme or project management experience at national or international level
  • Experience designing, managing or monitoring UNDP programmes or development projects
  • Experience in GEF-SGP thematic areas at national level
  • Knowledge of UNDP strategic programmes and operational policies
  • Experience liaising with NGOs, civil society organizations and government in sensitive environments
