Job Description

UNDP seeks a Project Manager in Bangui to lead a five-year payments-for-environmental-services project. The manager directs project delivery, budgets, staff, contractors and partner relationships; oversees monitoring, reporting and risk management; maintains compliance with UNDP and CAFI procedures; and advances sustainable forest management, climate-finance and community development results.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Manage daily project-unit activities, including administrative and financial operations
  • Develop detailed work plans and manage project budgets, activities, monitoring and reporting
  • Prepare terms of reference and oversee consultants, contractors and project partners
  • Maintain project indicators, risks and quarterly and annual reports in Quantum
  • Prepare donor and UNDP progress reports and follow up on evaluation and audit recommendations
  • Coordinate with CAFI, environmental authorities and other stakeholders and build strategic partnerships

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in natural resources management, environmental sciences or a related field
  • At least seven years of project or programme management experience in sustainable development and climate change
  • Experience in a national institution or international organization working on natural resources or the environment
  • Leadership, project-management and project-coordination experience
  • Fluency in French

Desired Criteria

  • Experience supervising multiple project implementation units
  • Knowledge of sustainable-development and climate-finance mechanisms
  • Experience with UNDP or United Nations rules and procedures
  • Experience with results-based management and project monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience with payments for environmental services projects
