Job Description

Leads UNEP’s sustainable-materials, circular-economy and life-cycle work from Paris, linking scientific evidence with policy, industry and finance action. The role oversees knowledge products, partnerships and programme resources, strengthens science-policy interfaces and data access, and manages staff and initiatives that advance sustainable consumption, resource efficiency and decisions.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Review scientific studies, assessments and knowledge products on sustainable resource use and materials impacts
  • Provide methodological advice on life-cycle approaches, material footprints and circularity metrics
  • Strengthen science-policy links on sustainable materials management and consumption
  • Lead secretariat support to scientific bodies, networks and global partnerships
  • Improve access to scientific data, analytics and knowledge products
  • Oversee budgets, funding, project preparation, progress reporting and financial documentation
  • Supervise staff, partnerships and data-driven planning across unit initiatives

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in natural resources science, natural resource management or environmental science, or a first-level degree with qualifying experience
  • At least ten years of science-based, policy-relevant advice on sustainable consumption and production and circular economy using life-cycle approaches, including five years internationally
  • Experience mobilising resources for projects exceeding USD 5 million
  • Experience managing international teams of five or more people
  • Peer-reviewed publication record on scientific analysis of natural-resource use and management
  • English at UN Level III
