Job Description

Provides technical and coordination support for UNEP’s Latin America and Caribbean environmental portfolio, with emphasis on the Southern Cone, sustainable waste management and food systems. The consultant advances environmental project pipelines, policy advice and partnerships; supports methane mitigation, circular-economy and zero-waste initiatives; and delivers reports, capacity-building, stakeholder engagement and programme inputs.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Identify environmental project and partnership opportunities aligned with national priorities
  • Advise UNEP offices and divisions on emerging UN Country Team activities
  • Support responses to ministry requests for policy design, institutional strengthening and capacity building
  • Provide technical guidance for methane reduction and dumpsite-closure cooperation
  • Support the Coalition work plan, focal-point meetings and awareness campaigns
  • Coordinate UNEP engagement with the LAC University Consortium on Sustainable Waste Management
  • Advance zero-waste, extended-producer-responsibility and resource-mobilisation initiatives
  • Support food-systems project delivery, stakeholder workshops and the LAC Food Systems Task Force

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental management, natural resources, science, engineering or a related field
  • Master's degree in environmental management, natural resources, science, engineering or a related field
  • At least five years of professional experience in environmental science, natural-resources management, waste management and capacity building
  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Additional studies or training in environmental affairs, waste management and environmental education
  • Experience with waste-management and capacity-building projects
  • Working experience in Latin America and the Caribbean and knowledge of regional and national stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the United Nations System
