Job Description

Strengthens local child-protection and violence-prevention systems in Machala and Huaquillas, Ecuador, for a UNICEF peacebuilding project. The role develops practical protection tools, improves coordination between institutions and communities, and builds capacity to prevent recruitment, criminal violence and gender-based violence affecting children and adolescents.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Assess existing prevention and protection capacities and mechanisms in Machala and Huaquillas
  • Map and document protection routes, referral mechanisms, protocols and procedures
  • Develop and update practical guides, operational manuals and technical materials
  • Build a prevention-and-protection toolkit using tools, methodologies and service directories
  • Strengthen coordination among protection councils, local government, public institutions and community organisations
  • Design and deliver capacity building on violence prevention, recruitment prevention and child protection
  • Monitor implementation, prepare technical reports and support evidence-based improvements

Role Requirements

  • At least three years of professional experience in child and adolescent protection, rights protection, institutional strengthening or community development
  • Experience working with local governments, rights-protection systems or public institutions
  • Experience facilitating participatory processes and strengthening institutional and community capacity
  • Experience designing technical guides, protocols, manuals or methodologies

Desired Criteria

  • Experience preventing violence, recruitment or use of children by criminal groups, or gender-based violence
  • Experience in human-mobility or border contexts
  • Knowledge of Ecuador's National Decentralised System for the Comprehensive Protection of Children and Adolescents
  • Experience working with Cantonal Protection Councils and Boards
  • Experience in inter-institutional coordination and community-network strengthening
