Job Description

Coordinates Mexico's multilateral environmental agenda through a UNDP-supported project with the Secretariat of Foreign Affairs. The specialist oversees environmental policy planning, advances climate commitments and international agreements, prepares institutional positions for negotiations, coordinates agencies and partners, and develops workplans, indicators and analysis to track commitments.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Supervise planning and execution of environmental foreign policy with national authorities and international organisations
  • Contribute to negotiation of bilateral and trilateral climate-change treaties and agreements
  • Develop elements to implement Mexico's climate commitments in multilateral forums
  • Propose institutional positions on climate change for committees, meetings and negotiations
  • Develop annual workplans, activities, targets and indicators for the Directorate General
  • Track national and international agreements and commitments with public-administration entities

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, political science, international relations, public policy or a related field
  • Ten years of experience with a bachelor's degree or eight years with a master's degree in public administration, international relations, foreign trade, multilateral negotiations, international organisations or related subjects
  • Experience in project planning and management
  • Experience in international negotiation and interinstitutional coordination
  • Advanced English
  • Mexican citizenship or migration status allowing performance of the function

Desired Criteria

  • Master's degree in economics, political science, international relations, public policy or related subjects
  • Experience in international economics, foreign trade or diplomacy
  • Experience in the Federal Public Administration
