Job Description

Supports a national assessment and adaptation strategy for Burundi’s health system in response to climate change through a One Health approach. The consultant analyses climate-health risks and vulnerabilities, develops modelling and policy recommendations, coordinates local evidence and consultations, and prepares French-language technical reports and a practical national adaptation strategy for health-sector planning.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Assess climate-change impacts on health and vulnerabilities in Burundi
  • Map climate-health risks, priority areas and vulnerable populations
  • Evaluate health-system preparedness and resilience for climate risks
  • Analyse health integration in national climate and development policies
  • Apply climate and epidemiological modelling to project future health impacts
  • Develop a national climate-change adaptation strategy for the health system
  • Mobilise national stakeholders and validate local data
  • Facilitate consultations and prepare technical reports and recommendations

Role Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Climatology, Environment or a related field
  • At least 5 years of public-health and/or climate-change project experience
  • Demonstrated experience collecting, analysing and interpreting data
  • Good knowledge of Burundi’s health system
  • Expert knowledge of French and Kirundi

Desired Criteria

  • Experience conducting similar assessments
  • Doctoral degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Climatology, Environment or a related field
  • Intermediate knowledge of English and Swahili

  • Full-time external consultancy for an estimated three months with possible domestic travel
