Job Description
The National AFOLU GIS/MRV Specialist supports FAO and Papua New Guinea counterparts to strengthen forest and land-use monitoring, climate reporting and REDD+ implementation. Based in the CCDA Satellite Land Monitoring System Laboratory, the role manages geospatial data, GIS and remote-sensing workflows, national MRV reporting, forest mapping, risk analysis and capacity development.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Compile spatial and activity data for AFOLU reporting and NDC monitoring
- Maintain GIS and MRV workflows, inventories, records and data archives
- Support forest benchmark mapping and annual forest-state monitoring
- Develop land-use, commodity, plantation and road-network datasets
- Analyse deforestation and degradation drivers and prepare risk maps
- Prepare maps, statistics, metadata and technical documentation
- Provide GIS, remote-sensing and data-management support and training
- Support REDD+ readiness and national climate-reporting processes
Role Requirements
- University degree in a related discipline
- At least five years of experience in GIS, remote sensing, geospatial analysis or AFOLU MRV
- Working knowledge of English
- National of Papua New Guinea
- Proficiency in a desktop GIS platform and relevant geospatial tools
Desired Criteria
- Experience supporting climate reporting, REDD+ or NDC monitoring
- Experience in capacity development and knowledge management
