Overview

Supports FAO Viet Nam’s anticipatory-action project by conducting baseline capacity work, advancing disaster-law and technical standards, integrating forecasts and risk maps, strengthening local and national capacity, and monitoring activation of early actions for typhoons, floods and drought.

Responsibilities

  • Develop baseline capacity-assessment tools and recommendations
  • Support anticipatory-action provisions in disaster legislation
  • Draft technical standards, protocols and operating procedures
  • Integrate hazard, exposure and vulnerability data into risk maps
  • Review forecasts, triggers and drought-index methods
  • Deliver capacity building and stakeholder workshops
  • Monitor activation of early actions and document lessons

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in environmental management, environmental science, climate change, disaster risk management, agriculture, public policy or a closely related field
  • At least five years of relevant experience in disaster risk reduction, climate adaptation or emergency response in Vietnam
  • Specific experience in anticipatory action
  • Working Level C English and fluency in Vietnamese
  • Vietnamese nationality
