Job Description

Leads UNFPA political affairs, Member State engagement and advocacy. The Chief advises executive leadership on geopolitical developments, directs engagement and outreach, prepares leaders for high-level diplomacy, and manages political intelligence, relationships and follow-up across headquarters, regional and country offices to advance UNFPA priorities globally.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Advise executive leadership on geopolitical developments, Member State positions and political risks
  • Direct political briefs, country profiles, stakeholder analysis and strategic advice for executive decisions
  • Lead executive-level Member State engagement strategies and high-level diplomatic preparation
  • Oversee political advocacy narratives and outreach for diverse Member State constituencies
  • Coordinate diplomatic arrangements, preparation and follow-up for official visits and senior engagements
  • Lead and develop Branch personnel and political-intelligence systems

Role Requirements

  • Advanced degree in political science, international relations, international economics, law, public administration, public policy, development studies or a related field
  • At least 15 years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs, diplomacy, international relations, multilateral affairs, strategic advocacy or development cooperation
  • Experience providing strategic political advice to senior executive leadership
  • Experience engaging Member States, governments, Permanent Missions and senior government officials
  • Fluency in English

Desired Criteria

  • Experience in an executive office, senior government office or comparable senior leadership environment
  • Experience in the United Nations system or a comparable international organisation
  • Knowledge of population and development, sexual and reproductive health and rights, gender equality or humanitarian affairs
  • Working knowledge of another official UN language
