Job Description
Supports the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs with policy analysis. The P5 Special Assistant prepares development positions, monitors emerging issues, manages correspondence and meeting follow-up, supports General Assembly and ECOSOC processes, and serves as DESA liaison with Member States, UN officials, civil society and intergovernmental delegations.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Prepare policy notes and strategic proposals on major development issues
- Advise the Under-Secretary-General on programme and policy issues
- Monitor emerging development issues in UN intergovernmental processes
- Oversee correspondence for the Under-Secretary-General
- Coordinate preparations and follow-up for senior meetings
- Support General Assembly, ECOSOC and functional-commission discussions
- Act as DESA liaison with officials, delegations and collaborative partners
Role Requirements
- Advanced university degree in social development, economics, political science, public administration, communications, international relations or related fields
- A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in international relations, socioeconomic research and analysis, policy formulation or development programmes
- Experience in economic, social and sustainable development at international and national levels
- Experience supporting senior officials in an intergovernmental or diplomatic setting
- English
