Overview

Provides substantive and procedural support to General Assembly, ECOSOC and related intergovernmental bodies in New York. The officer organizes sessions, advises presiding officers, manages documentation and voting procedures, follows decisions and drafts analysis and briefing material for senior officials.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and supervise secretariat services for intergovernmental meetings
  • Serve as secretary or deputy secretary to assigned bodies
  • Prepare procedural notes and manage voting and elections
  • Advise presiding officers on rules, negotiations and programme implications
  • Coordinate pre-session, in-session and post-session documents
  • Draft reports, talking points and senior-official correspondence

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in international relations, law or diplomacy, or first degree plus two years
  • Seven years of relevant progressive experience
  • Substantive support to international intergovernmental processes
  • Knowledge of major-organization procedures and practices
  • English at UN Level III
