Job Description

Provides strategic leadership and technical oversight for UNICEF's child-protection programme in Malaysia. The Chief guides planning, implementation and monitoring, supports national action on CRC recommendations, and builds partnerships with government, civil society, donors, UN agencies and business to strengthen systems and improve protection outcomes for children.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, implementation and monitoring of child protection programmes
  • Provide strategic leadership and technical oversight to the child protection team
  • Support national efforts to strengthen the protection environment for children
  • Support Government implementation of CRC Concluding Observations and Recommendations
  • Build partnerships with government, CSOs, donors, UN agencies and business partners
  • Drive innovation that strengthens child-protection systems

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in international development, psychology, sociology, international law, social science, human rights or a related field
  • At least eight years of relevant experience in programme, child protection, development, human rights, research or partnerships
  • Proficient or fluent English

Desired Criteria

  • Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language
  • Experience in high-income-country, online child protection, development or humanitarian contexts
  • Experience with migrant or undocumented children and alternative care
  • Country-level experience in development, fragile settings or humanitarian contexts
