Job Description
Develops and optimises chemical and electrochemical surface treatments for superconducting radiofrequency cavities, supporting their performance in future CERN accelerators. The engineer combines laboratory trials, process simulation and quality methods with the design, procurement and commissioning of a new scientific surface-treatment facility for SRF components.

Summary of Responsibilities
- Develop, operate and optimise chemical and electrochemical surface-processing techniques for SRF cavities and subassemblies
- Conduct laboratory-scale chemical and electrochemical trials to improve process performance and reproducibility
- Define technical requirements and coordinate the design, procurement, testing, commissioning and acceptance of surface-finishing equipment and facilities
- Develop, validate and implement operating procedures, process specifications and quality-control methods
- Communicate results and technical recommendations with engineers, physicists, technicians, safety specialists and suppliers
- Maintain and implement safety measures and documentation for existing and new processes and facilities
Role Requirements
- Master’s degree, PhD or equivalent relevant experience in Chemical Engineering or a related field
- Strong background in applied electrochemistry and corrosion
- Experience in modelling, simulation and optimisation of chemical or electrochemical treatment processes
- Good knowledge of chemical engineering unit operations and chemical process safety
- Spoken and written English or French with a commitment to learn the other language
- National of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State
- Valid driving licence
- Medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed
Desired Criteria
- Familiarity with electrochemical characterisation techniques
- Knowledge of wet surface-finishing processes with initial practical experience
- Knowledge of metallurgy
