Job Description

Supports UNICEF WASH programming in Gaza with assistance focused on environmental and social safeguards. The Officer plans, implements, monitors and evaluates water, sanitation and hygiene results; manages risk assessment and safeguard documentation; supports humanitarian preparedness; and works with partners to deliver compliant, climate-resilient infrastructure for affected communities.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Support WASH programme development, planning and implementation
  • Manage environmental and social safeguards in WASH project cycles
  • Prepare and review environmental and social assessment instruments
  • Monitor safeguard compliance and risk-mitigation plans
  • Provide technical and operational support for humanitarian WASH response
  • Build partnerships and strengthen knowledge management

Role Requirements

  • Advanced university degree in environmental, civil, sanitary or water engineering, or a related technical field
  • At least 2 years of WASH programme experience in developing countries
  • Experience in environmental and social impact assessment, safeguards and risk-management plans for WASH infrastructure
  • Fluency in English and Arabic

Desired Criteria

  • Emergency WASH or environmental-health experience
  • Climate-resilient WASH and environmental-sustainability experience
  • Experience with EU, KfW, World Bank or other donor-funded infrastructure projects
