Job Description

Conducts architectural inspections and technical diagnoses for UN-Habitat's Vida Nova no Morro project in Niterói, supporting social-housing improvements in informal settlements. The consultant collects and validates building data, communicates with residents, supports fieldwork planning and reports on housing conditions, risks and project delivery in collaboration with local programme partners.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Conduct architectural inspections, assessments and technical diagnoses in favelas
  • Collect building measurements, photographs and technical sketches through architectural surveys
  • Verify collected data and clarify fieldwork questions
  • Prepare reports and support technical documentation
  • Communicate with residents about upcoming programme stages
  • Support fieldwork methodology for technical diagnosis of dwellings
  • Report field incidents and follow programme safety protocols
  • Submit monthly activity reports and project updates

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture and Urbanism or Civil Engineering, or three additional years of relevant experience
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, building assessment, residential construction, building surveying, housing improvement or related areas
  • Experience inspecting, assessing and technically diagnosing residential buildings
  • Proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook and web search engines
  • Fluency in Portuguese
  • Brazilian nationality or a permanent visa in Brazil

Desired Criteria

  • Previous experience within the United Nations system
  • Experience in public policies in favelas
