Job Description

Provides specialist drainage-engineering oversight for UN-Habitat's Izidora urban-upgrading project, helping improve safe and sustainable infrastructure and housing in informal settlements in Belo Horizonte. The consultant reviews designs and hydrological studies, advises technical teams and verifies contractor deliverables across the project's drainage recovery and culvert work.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Review drainage designs and confirm compatibility with sewage and water-network projects
  • Prepare technical assessments and reports on drainage projects
  • Propose revisions to technical drawings to meet quality standards
  • Advise designers, planners and engineers on drainage solutions
  • Review recovery, environmental-assessment and box-culvert project deliverables
  • Analyse hydrological-study outputs and drainage reports across the project areas
  • Prepare project technical documents and participate in technical-team meetings

Role Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
  • Postgraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a related field, or four additional years of relevant experience
  • At least six years of sanitation-engineering experience, particularly in drainage and sustainable urban drainage design
  • Availability to travel within Brazil when requested
  • Brazilian nationality or a permanent visa in Brazil

Desired Criteria

  • Experience with nature-based solutions
  • Experience designing or working in informal settlements
  • Previous experience within the United Nations system
  • AutoCAD Civil 3D experience
